Brief Introduction of Geocell Confinement System
Geocell Confinement System--also known as Cellular Confinement System(CCS), it is a kind of three-dimensional network structure shaped by high-strength HDPE (high density polyethylene) sheets through ultrasonic welding of high strength. The depth of the geocells as well as the size of each cellular unit can vary as per design requirements. The surface of geocells are smooth or textured, the textured geocells increase soil-geocell wall friction. Geocells can be perforated or non-perforated. If the depth of geocell is over 10cm, the geocell can be perforated, the geocell wall is punctured to assist in immediate dissipation of developed porewater pressures due to increased stresses within the infill of the individual cells.

Geocell Confinement System Characteristic
Geocell is a new type of geosynthetics in the world in the 1980s. This is a three-dimensional network structure made of wide strips of high molecular polymer through strong welding. It can expand and contract freely. It can be folded during transportation and opened during use. It is filled with sand, gravel or soil in the cell to form a structure with strong lateral restriction and large stiffness. It can be used as cushion to improve the bearing capacity of soft foundation, and can also be laid on the slope, It forms a slope protection structure and can also be used to build a retaining structure. At present, it is widely used in shallow foundation treatment, slope erosion prevention and urban large-scale pipeline support. It is a promising basic engineering construction material.

Engineering function:
1. It has high strength, low creep and can adapt to all kinds of
environmental soil, which can fully meet the use of tall retaining
wall in high-grade highway.
2. It can effectively improve the interlocking and bite effect of
the reinforced bearing surface, greatly enhance the bearing
capacity of the foundation, effectively restrict the lateral
displacement of the soil, and enhance the stability of the
foundation.
3. Compared with the traditional grid, it has the characteristics
of high strength, strong bearing capacity, corrosion resistance,
anti-aging, large friction coefficient, uniform holes, convenient
construction and long service life.
4. It is more suitable for deep-sea operation and embankment
reinforcement, and fundamentally solves the technical problems such
as low strength, poor corrosion resistance and short service life
caused by long-term seawater erosion of gabions made of other
materials.
5. It can effectively avoid construction damage caused by rolling
and damage by machines and tools during construction
Laying method
Construction method of geocell:
1. Broken surface leveling: the flatness of slope surface is
related to the success or failure of grass planting protection in
geocell. When the slope surface is uneven, the laying of geocell is
easy to produce stress concentration, resulting in cracking of cell
solder joints, resulting in cell stepping, etc. Therefore, the
slope must be leveled to the design requirements, and the slope
shall be repaired manually to remove the pumice and dangerous
stones on the slope.
2. The main drainage ditch system shall be set on the side slope of
the paved cell: a distance of 4m shall be maintained between two
adjacent ditches, and the drainage ditch shall be connected with
the highway side ditch, so that the road area water flows into the
drainage channel along the side ditch and into the edge of the
highway, so as to prevent the road area water from scouring the
cell slope protection.
3. Laying direction: the cell shall be laid from top to bottom in
the main stress direction to make the cell sheet perpendicular to
the highway subgrade. Never lay horizontally.
