1. Introduction

316L (UNS S31603) is a molybdenum-based austenitic stainless steel that offers better resistance to general corrosion, pitting and crack corrosion than conventional chrome-nickel austenitic alloys such as 304. These alloys have higher ductility, stress corrosion resistance, compressive strength and high temperature resistance.
