Product Description


Thermoplastic road marking paint, also known as hot melt marking paint, is a type of powder paint used for road surface markings. When heated to approximately 200°C (392°F), it melts and is applied to road surfaces, where it quickly hardens upon cooling to form a durable, wear-resistant, and reflective layer.


Composition of Hot Melt Marking Paint:

  • Synthetic Resins: These serve as binders, providing thermoplasticity and ensuring strong adhesion to the road surface. Common resins used include:

    • Aliphatic Hydrocarbon Resins: Derived from petroleum, these resins offer excellent color stability and resistance to UV degradation.
    • C5 Petroleum Resins: These are widely used due to their good compatibility with other ingredients and their ability to enhance the paint's adhesive properties.

  • Pigments: Provide color and opacity to the markings.

    • Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂): Used for white markings, it offers high brightness and opacity.
    • Organic Pigments: Such as Pigment Yellow 65, 74, or 83, are used for yellow markings.

  • Glass Beads: Incorporated to enhance reflectivity, improving nighttime visibility. These beads are typically colorless and transparent, reflecting light from vehicle headlights back toward the driver.

  • Fillers: Materials like calcium carbonate and silica sand are added to improve mechanical strength, wear resistance, and to adjust the paint's viscosity.

  • Additives: Substances such as plasticizers, anti-settling agents, and stabilizers are included to enhance flexibility, prevent sedimentation, and improve overall durability of the paint.

How To Apply The Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint

  • Surface Preparation:

    • Ensure the road surface is clean, dry, and free from debris, oil, or existing markings. Proper adhesion requires a well-prepared surface.

  • Measuring and Marking:

    • Use chalk or temporary paint to outline the areas where the thermoplastic paint will be applied. Double-check measurements to ensure compliance with local regulations.

  • Safety Precautions:

    • Set up warning signs, cones, and barriers to divert traffic and ensure worker safety during the application process.

  • Heating the Thermoplastic Material:

    • Heat the thermoplastic paint to approximately 200°C (392°F) using specialized equipment, such as a thermoplastic preheater, to achieve a molten state suitable for application.

  • Application Methods:

    • Screed Box Application: A screed box applies the molten thermoplastic material onto the road surface, creating uniform lines.
    • Extrusion: The material is extruded through a die to form markings with specific dimensions.
    • Spraying: High-pressure airless spraying equipment distributes the molten material evenly across the surface.

  • Glass Bead Dispersion:

    • Immediately after application, while the thermoplastic is still hot, glass beads are dispersed onto the surface to enhance nighttime visibility by reflecting headlights back toward drivers.

  • Cooling and Hardening:

    • The applied material cools and hardens rapidly, typically within a few minutes, allowing for minimal traffic disruption.
